Yes of course you can do it, we have done similar and if the plug top was damaged you would do it. the only thing I would say is that you must absolutely wreck the one you take off because if a child got hold of it and plugged it into a socket with a bit of bare wire sticking out it could be tragic. Make sure you put the correct fuse cartridge in though.

Try out the most simple thing. There are few buttons on your Monitor. Click on the Menu button. It will show you some options for look settings. Go to Brightness and increase it to the limit you want. That will solve your problem.
Someone might have reduced the brightness by mistake and that is causing your monitor look dim.

This is a handy, easy to carry, simple to use with reasonable quality pictures. Can plug into newer TV sets and play the pictures quite easily. Only drawback is I have an intel duocore iMac – I cannot download the movies to the mac. The instructions are limited for a mac as well. i would recommend looking at something else if you are at all Mac inclined. I can’t vouch for a pc as I don’t have one. Romex wire normally has one black (hot 120 vac), one white (return 120 vac) and one bare copper wire (safety ground). The black hot wire gets connected to the darker brass colored screw terminals on one side of the 120 vac plug outlet. The white return wire gets connected to the lighter brass colored screw terminals on the opposite side of the 120 vac outlet. Finally, the bare copper safety ground wire gets connected to the green screw at the bottom of the 120 vac plug outlet. Usually, the white return and safety ground wires are connected to the same grounding blocks at the electrical service entrance breaker box. Therefore, there should be no voltage reading between the white return wire and the bare copper safety wire. You should read 120 vac between the white return or safety ground wires and the black hot 120 vac wire.
Inexpensive testers are available at electrical supply stores for checking the correct polarity is wired to every outlet. The tester simply plugs into the outlet and lights up to indicate a good or bad polarity wiring of the outlet.
